How does such a place exist, one might ask? Here are the facts:
Argentina is the ninth largest country in the world, and she has an
agricultural belt the size of the state of California. This area, known as
the Pampas, is a vast plain of cultivated farmland and wetlands—the perfect
habitat for waterfowl. But the real reason that Argentina is such a hunter’s
paradise is the fact that the Argentina duck hunting season is limited, and
hunting pressure is virtually non-existent. Argentines do not hunt
waterfowl, and statistics prove that there are more duck hunters in the duck
blinds in Arkansas on opening day alone, than total hunting licenses sold in
the Argentina hunting seasons every year—we are talking total licenses,
including big game.
So what does this mean for you, the duck hunter? It means that ducks are
so abundant, and geese are such a plague (although they no longer poison
them) that the government places liberal limits on ducks, and NO LIMIT on
geese. This is a country that relies on agricultural exports for the lion’s
share of its GNP, and without sufficient efforts to control wildlife
populations; waterfowl will just continue to decimate their crops en masse.
Put simply, the Argentine government is not going to wait for these birds to
start destroying golf courses before they do something about it. This is why
there is no limit placed on the bag during the Argentina goose hunting
season.
But make no mistake, it is easy for one to focus only on the liberal
limit that Argentina has to offer—but that is just one side of the coin. One
of the most popular reasons that our clients come to Argentina is to harvest
the huge variety of species that do not exist in the wild in the Northern
Hemisphere. Examples include: Magellan Goose, Ashyheaded Goose,
Rosybilled Pochard, Brown Pintail, White Cheek Pintail, Chiloe (pronounced
chill-away)Widgeon, Speckled Teal, Silver Teal, Ringed Teal, Red Shoveler,
White-Faced Tree Ducks, Fulvous Tree Ducks, and more. The tremendous
variety alone brings in waterfowlers from all over the world who are looking
for arguably the most colorful waterfowl trophies available in one place. We
offer the most simple and easy taxidermy process in the industry. You just
hand us the bird you wish to collect, and we handle the entire process for
you—paperwork, shipping, and all. We have a guidebook in the
lodge that
illustrates over twenty different flying and sitting mounts available.
In the afternoons, you will enjoy upland bird hunting, for a species
called Perdiz, over pointers and English Setters. The Perdiz (pronounced
per-deez) is slightly larger than a bobwhite quail, and just a delicious on
the table. The birds are all wild, but one would swear that they weren’t
because they hold so tight while the dog is on point.
Like most upland hunting, Perdiz hunting is not a high-volume affair. The
limit is ten per hunter, per day. The hunting takes place within thirty
minutes of the lodge in the foothills of the Sierra de la Ventana Mountains,
where there are no snakes, thorns, or cacti. The walking is very easy, and
the red sunsets and unforgettable views are pure pleasure.
Depending on scouting results, we often have pigeon roosts available for
afternoon pigeon hunting. These birds are considered pests, and there are no
bag limits for Argentina pigeon hunting. Unlike pigeon hunting in Paraguay,
a typical pigeon shoot here is only a 2-4 boxes of shells proposition—but
sometimes more. However, spot wing pigeons, and picazuro pigeons fly high
and erratically, so they can be challenging targets even for master class
shooters.
So what more is there to say? Have you ever had the deck stacked so far
in your favor? No limits, no steel shot, and no plugs… This is truly the
ultimate in modern day waterfowling. Furthermore, due to our location in the
southern hemisphere, the duck hunting seasons are exactly opposite from ours
in the USA. We open in early may, and close in August. So you never have to
miss any part if your goose hunting season back home. It is like getting two
duck seasons in one, because you will likely shoot the same amount of birds
in one week here, as you do in your entire season at home.
Our standards are high—very high. Our credits include: Two Benelli
American Safari T.V. shows, and one Benelli Dream Hunts Series;
The Beretta Wingshooters Journal with Chris Dorsey, and two duck
hunting videos with the waterfowl pros from Final Approach, as well. In 2006
we will host Mossy Oak. In addition, our product has been in feature
articles in Shooting Sportsman magazine twice, as well as the Bird
Hunting Report, and the very successful book Wingshooting Argentina—a
beautiful coffee table book showcasing the finest bird hunting lodges in
Argentina.
Our product is not the most expensive on the market, but close to it.
Those looking for a “bargain” should definitely book elsewhere. However,
those who want the best value should book with us. Our pricing is the most
